AA, Real Estate (2014)

Why AA?

As some of you already know, I manage my family’s residential real estate portfolio.  As a necessity, I wanted to formalize my real estate knowledge.  What started with one Property Management class in 2008 blossomed into love for the entire subject.  After taking a few classes, I realized that I had enough credits to get the AA degree.

Now, normally I’d just be happy with the Real Estate knowledge, but I had an epiphany when I applied to an MBA program at a local CSU campus.  The Admissions gatekeeper wouldn’t consider my Real Estate classes because it wasn’t part of a degree program.  Henceforth, the AA degree!

Why Real Estate?

As I stated above, I needed to help my family by taking over their residential property management portfolio.  Of course, I could’ve just continued the mom-and-pop, just-ask-advice-and-hope-it’s-correct property management style that the previous managers had adopted.  However, I wanted to learn the rules and regulations of the State of California.  These rules protect tenants, landlords and the integrity of the entire rental process.  Learning these rules is crucial to creating healthy long-term relationships with my tenants.

Why Merritt College?

The mission of Merritt College is to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve by helping students to attain knowledge, master skills, and develop the appreciation, attitudes and values needed to succeed and participate responsibly in a democratic society and a global economy.

Oakland’s Merritt College, located in the scenic Oakland Hills, is one of the four schools in the Peralta Community College District.  Along with the required General Education courses that students can transfer to 4-year institutions, each Peralta College specializes in particular vocational programs.  The vocational programs at Merritt College include Real Estate and Nursing.  The Real Estate classes are taught by seasoned professionals in the field who can reach into their own experiences to expand on the book’s lessons.  As a bonus, that fantastic view can’t be beat!

How does this benefit your organization?

You say, “So what?  We here at ACME Corp. aren’t in the real estate industry.  How can any of this possibly benefit our organization?”

Well, you value attention-to-detail, responsible financial literacy, and entrepreneurial resourcefulness, right?  In a nutshell, that’s Real Estate.

In conclusion, give me a call today!  Let’s discuss how, together, we can make your organization thrive!
